the day finally came

Christy and i started this adventure back in April. We had some low times, some injuries, some rethinking of our training but overall we have had an awesome 6 months training to do our very 1st half marathon.

this was the day we had been working towards. i had found out the evening before that jeff was supposed to work. i was beyond hurt and disappointed that he wouldnt be there when he knew how important this was. the one thing i asked him 6 months ago was that he had to be at the finish line with a pink 13.1 sticker. well i also found out for sure on friday that he hadnt got the darn sticker either. so even with direct instructions and 6 months to prepare i really felt like he let me down. so when i left out early sat morning i wasnt in the best mood. but what could i do about it at that point but vent to my running buddy! hahaha

so anyways… we met up with Allison at the college campus and were ready to get this thing started.

i went ahead and took my camera with me during the run! and i am glad I did cause it was kind of neat to take pictures of the mile markers!

Shortly after passing mile 9 I found out that jeff had made it work out so that he would be at the finish line. i cant even explain how excited i was. i even called him while on the road to make sure he was serious about being on his way! if you want some funny looks just be on the phone during a half marathon! hahaha i told him later that night that he should have told me earlier that he would be there because i would have quit talking bad about him before mile 9.5! hahaha

here we are right after the phone call at 9.5 miles into the race!

and this is hilarious… i was “picture jacked” as the man called it! he ran up beside me when christy was trying to make sure she got the picture! this guy and his wife were hilarious! he spent most of the race singing! he said he picture jacks all the time. a family reunion in new mexico, a group of japense tourists, etc…

another interesting thing was he mentioned that he wouldnt have thought he would be doing this 6 months ago. so we talked about how we started in april also to get ready. he had lost 75 lbs and his wife has lost 60 lbs and they had the best trainer in the world, jillian micheals. WTH?? Yes you see, this is Patrick Northern from Goodlettsville. Him and his wife Kim and family were on the TV show Losing It with Jillian! How awesome!!

our friend and fellow running mentor was at mile marker 13 so she grabbed my camera for a quick photo op before we went into the track for the last .1 miles to the finish line!

And just like that, 3 hours and 7 minutes later, we were done! We had done it! We crossed the finish line of our very 1st half marathon! Allison busted hump and did amazing at 2 hrs 28 minutes!

We took a minute to recoop and get our bearings but neither of us felt too swift. I had a problem with dehydration from lack of pre-race hydrating and nothing but letting my body absorb the water I downed at the end was going to help. So our great plan of lunch after the race was short lived but we each went home and relieved our muscles with some cold water and got some rest and just vegged out for a bit!

It was an amazing day to say the least. i cant believe I completed 13.1 miles on my own two feet! I am so thankful for Christy being my running buddy these past 6 months and now we just gotta see what is the next thing we can get ourselves into! hahaha
