Update on Matthew

Matt has been sick since 5am Friday morning. It started with throwing up, worked into some diarrhea. He complained of his belly button hurting. Had some fever late that night and was up off and on all night.

Saturday he stayed home from the tball game and layed around all day. He would randomly throw up. He would drink gatorade and be fine, he would eat and be fine, then next time he drank he would be sick. But he never threw up any food and his fever was gone. So we tried to keep fluids in him but it wasnt working too well. And his complaint was his belly button. He would cry OUCH OUCH over and over then be fine for a while and sleep and eat or something then would hurt again.

Sunday morning he said he felt better. He even wanted to go to church so we did. He sat in our laps and was just kinda there. He was ready to go home afterwards and really didnt even care that we missed going to eat Mexican. We got home and he wanted cinnamon toast to eat and did fine with it. Then even fell asleep for a few hour nap. But when he got up he was screaming about his belly. He had a regular poop but still hadnt peed all day. Enough was enough. If anything he was dehydrated you could tell from his dry lips and mouth so we headed to the ER. He was crying and hurting and I finally gave in to a drink from the water fountain. This wasnt a good idea because it stayed down a minute and he was throwing it all up.

We got called back and the 1st thing they said was be ready for an IV for fluids. He told them that when he drinks it comes up. But when they drew his blood and put in the IV he did fantastic. He then went to get come xrays and then back for his IV bag. They gave him anti nausea meds in the IV then an antibiotic orally and he had a couple sips of pedialyte. The dr said he had a stomach bug but the problem is that these could be early signs of appendix problems. Soon after we were sent home. Matt even told the dr that nothing was working because his belly button still hurt.

When we got home Matt was in the bathroom with diarrhea then napped for a couple hrs then right back in the bathroom. He was crying and saying he was hurting. And finally fell asleep. When he woke up Monday morning he threw up after his 1st sip of gatorade. Then he acted better, asked for food, played cards with granny while I went to get his meds filled. Shortly after I got home be was hurting again and soon after he was throwing up again. Then napped until dr appt later on.

My concern was that there is something wrong that we were missing. Poor guy has been sick for a few days and the dehydration was the icing on the cake. So off to the dr. he was not acting himself, was lazing around, dr is pretty sure its a nasty virus and we had the option of going to the hospital overnight for iv fluids or trying one more night at home to get him hydrated. at this time he had yet to pee all day. So we got some anti-nausea meds and made our way home.

Thankfully when we got home the 1st thing he did was pee in the driveway. He was talking about his belly hurting so we took some meds, he wanted some juice, and he watched cartoons. When granny and pappy came over he was wound up. he wanted to play games and was laughing and joking. Dad got home then aunt connie and austin came by and he was just acting like normal. the evening has been pretty much the same. he didnt want supper but took his bath and played cards with dad then just fell asleep after a little whining about his belly button.

So hopefully we are on the recovery side and that this is just a virus. We will be home for the next couple days to rest and hopefully he will be ready for school thursday and to go to the airport to get tx granny and grayson!
